Zeugma! on the cut

Members: Ruben Quintero

Zeugma! is just me and my guitar, and occasionally my harmonica. It got started on the Cut at Carnegie Mellon, where a bunch of us music lovers would gather and belt songs at the top of our lungs, much to the annoyance of the general populace. In 2007, I moved to Baltimore, where Zeugma! gained more substance. Since then, I've refined some songs (or so I hope), written a bunch of new ones, and taken to the streets of this city looking for any place to play.

I live in Fed Hill, so I tend to frequent the 8x10 (awesome venue on Cross St), but have also played around Catonsville, Elicott City, Canton, Fells Point, and Hamden to name a few. I'm always looking to find new venues, great people, and more shows.

And that, my friends, is where we are now.

What the heck is a Zeugma!?

Really, I just like the word. It's fun to say, cool to spell, and always deserves an exclamation. I heard the word in a poetry class in college, and have loved it since. The meaning, or actual poetic device, is wonderful too, but always secondary to its name. But if you must know, here's a fancy definition:

zeugma - use of a word to govern two or more words though appropriate to only one

Or, to quote the beloved Gerald Costanzo, "As I told my ex-wife: Pack your bags and bad attitude, and get the hell out of here!"
